SOLOROVE · HOW WE WORK

Behind the recommendations.

Useful planning detail. Clear sources. Room to make your own choice.

Research, with the limits made clear

SoloRove publishes independent planning guides for solo travellers. These are research-based articles, not accounts of personal stays, hotel inspections or a live comparison of accommodation prices.

1. What we help you decide

Our focus is the practical side of travelling alone: choosing a manageable destination, understanding neighbourhood trade-offs, selecting a room and checking the conditions of a booking for one adult. We start with Japan and write in English for readers including travellers from the UK and US.

A destination collection is a starting point, not a ranking of the safest or best places. Your budget, accessibility requirements, experience and preferred pace may lead to a different choice.

2. How we research

We use official tourism organisations, transport operators, government travel information and providers’ own descriptions for facts about their services. Detailed guides include source links so you can inspect the underlying information. General planning suggestions are editorial judgement rather than rules imposed by a destination.

Research and writing tools can support preparation, but they do not establish that a claim is true or that somebody has visited a place. We do not invent first-hand experience, guest reviews, inspection results or star ratings. If a future article is based on a personal visit, it should identify the author, the visit and any relevant commercial support.

Entry requirements, transport arrangements, local restrictions and booking conditions can change. Check the linked official sources and your own provider before committing to a trip.

3. Why a place or room type appears

Our selection considers the questions a solo traveller needs to answer:

  • Arrival and movement: where to base yourself, the journey to your accommodation and the practical cost of changing bases.
  • Privacy and company: whether a private room, capsule or dorm matches the experience you want.
  • Useful trade-offs: convenience versus atmosphere, private facilities versus shared spaces, and a busy itinerary versus more time in one place.
  • Information you can check: identifiable destinations and useful official sources, rather than unsupported promises.

Photographs show the destination. They do not show a room we are offering for sale. Our Photography Credits identify the image sources.

4. Providers and commercial independence

Accommodation links lead to a separate provider, where you choose the property and confirm the actual room, dates, full price and conditions. We do not offer live inventory or claim to compare every provider. An ordinary provider link is not evidence of a commercial partnership.

The current public links earn us no commission. If approved affiliate links are introduced, their commercial nature must be explained near the relevant recommendation or link. Commission must not be presented as evidence that a destination or accommodation is better. Sponsored placement must be labelled, and we do not sell fabricated favourable reviews.

Read the Affiliate Disclosure for the current status of links and the difference between referral fees and your booking.

5. Dates, corrections and feedback

A review date records when the article was last checked; it is not a promise that every external service will stay the same. Significant changes should be reflected in the affected guide and its date. Broken links or inaccurate information should be corrected or removed when identified.

To flag a problem, email jan.brchan@gmail.com with the page address, the passage and a useful source if you have one. We may need to check the information before changing the article. This channel also welcomes accessibility feedback.
